Saudi Arabia, Egypt Call for Halt to Israel’s Gaza Genocide

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia and Egypt urgently called on Monday for an end to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, pressing the global community to escalate efforts for a ceasefire and guarantee humanitarian aid access to the besieged territory.

At a critical emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the need for swift international action to halt Israeli violations and facilitate life-saving assistance into Gaza.

“It is necessary to deliver all essential assistance and support to the people of Gaza,” he declared, emphasizing that Israeli actions represent “the greatest threat to security and peace in the region.”

Prince Faisal condemned ongoing Israeli settlement expansions in Palestinian lands and voiced support for the expanding global endorsement of a two-state solution, upholding the Palestinians’ right to an independent state.

Echoing these concerns, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called on the international community to pressure Israel to accept a US-backed Gaza ceasefire proposal ratified by Hamas, which envisions a 60-day truce with unrestricted humanitarian access.

Speaking at the OIC gathering, Abdelatty revealed that over 5,000 aid trucks remain stranded on the Egyptian border due to Israeli restrictions, warning that Gaza requires at least 700 trucks daily to sustain its 2.4 million residents.

He accused Israel of employing starvation and siege strategies aimed at displacing Palestinians, a tactic Egypt firmly rejects, and denounced Israeli rhetoric promoting a “Greater Israel” as “arrogant and unacceptable.”

The session, led by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, sought to coordinate a collective response to Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza and reaffirmed backing for Palestinian statehood.

Since October 2023, Israel’s military operations have resulted in over 62,700 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, leaving the enclave devastated and facing severe famine.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Furthermore, Israel is currently subject to a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the enclave.
